About Work

Our thought process behind this piece was that cultures do not exist in a vacuum and that by sharing culture we enrich the land. We observed this happen especially in food.

The hot dog which is as synonymous of New York as it is from Germany where it was originally 'invented'. The popular Sriracha hot sauce is a similar cultural invention.

Despite how the bottle is presented, the Sriracha sauce we know and love is not actually from Thailand but created by a Vietnamese immigrant living in Los Angeles. The Sushi which is traditionally associated with Japan is also a food that has origins (South East Asia) outside of its most popular association and today has been merged with many cultures including Brazilian food, sushi burritos and sushi pizza. Our work questions culture appropriation  and commemorates culture being shared, appreciated and transformed in new ways. We believe it makes a much more richer living and place than a place strictly adhering to what is native to the land.
